The Hearing Event: Education Before Decision

“I didn’t realise it could sound like that.”

During our recent Hearing Event in Market Bosworth, a guest stood in front of the Klangfinder system, listening as background noise softened and speech came forward with clarity.

She paused, then said, “I didn’t realise it could sound like that.”

That sentence captures the purpose of The Hearing Event.

This format was created to give people the chance to understand modern hearing care properly before they are asked to make decisions.

Why we created The Hearing Event

A hearing assessment is detailed by design. Results are explained. Technology levels are introduced. Features are compared. Long-term support is discussed.

It is thorough, but it is concentrated.

For many people, that can feel like a significant amount of information in a short space of time.

The Hearing Event separates education from commitment.

Adam Bostock, Managing Director of Alto Hearing, explains:

“When someone attends a hearing assessment, they are often introduced to a great deal of information very quickly. The Hearing Event allows people to understand what support and technology look like in practice first. Once that foundation is there, the conversation about next steps becomes clearer and more considered.”

That principle guided our recent event, where guests were invited to explore hearing care without pressure or time constraints.

Complimentary SoundChecks

Megan Walton, audiologist at Alto Hearing Kenilworth joined the event and provided SoundChecks for attendees. Also pictured member of staff from Unitron talking to attendee.

Throughout the day, guests were able to book a complimentary SoundCheck.

A SoundCheck is a short hearing screen designed to provide an early indication of hearing health. It is not a full diagnostic assessment. It is a starting point.

For some attendees, it confirmed what they had already suspected. For others, it offered reassurance. In both cases, it grounded the wider discussions in something personal and relevant.

It moves the conversation from abstract to individual.

Hearing technology you can experience

One of the most engaging parts of the event was the opportunity to use our Klangfinder system.

The Klangfinder allows people to listen to and compare different levels of hearing technology within the room. Rather than relying solely on explanation, guests can hear how various processing approaches handle speech, background noise and clarity.

Speech in layered environments.
Noise management.
Differences between entry-level and premium processing.

Once someone experiences those contrasts directly, the conversation becomes practical. It is no longer about brochures or specifications. It is about lived experience.

Insight from leading manufacturers

We were very pleased to be supported by Widex, ReSound and Unitron.

Having manufacturer representatives alongside Alto audiologists added depth. Guests could explore how different systems are engineered and how design choices affect everyday listening.

Conversations covered real situations. Restaurants. Family gatherings. Television. Music. Listening fatigue.

Modern hearing technology has evolved significantly in recent years. Taking the time to understand those developments properly increases confidence and clarity when deciding how to move forward.

A broader perspective

Hearing Dogs for Deaf People attended with a working dog and also did a presentation on how they are trained and how they are used

We were also delighted to welcome Hearing Dogs for Deaf People, whose talk added an important dimension to the day.

Their work highlights the wider impact of hearing loss and the importance of independence and connection. It served as a reminder that hearing care is not only about sound processing. It is about participation in daily life.

An engaged and informed room

Nicola Boulton, Head of Customer Experience at Alto Hearing, said:

“It was a genuinely enjoyable day. People were engaged and asking thoughtful questions. When clients can hear the technology for themselves and understand how long-term support works, they feel more confident about what comes next.”

That confidence is central to the Alto approach.
