Long-term care
Aftercare is part of your treatment plan
At Alto, aftercare is not treated as an optional extra. It is part of the ongoing care included in your treatment plan.
That matters because successful hearing care is rarely just about the hearing aids themselves. It is also about how well they are fitted, how carefully they are adjusted and how supported you feel as you use them in everyday life.
Included support

Included in treatment plans
Most Alto hearing aid treatment plans include aftercare for five years. With Pro, aftercare is included for the life of the hearing aids.
Regular six-monthly support
We normally see hearing aid clients every six months to check ear health, clean and optimise the hearing aids, and make adjustments based on real-life feedback.
Hearing reviews over time
We usually retest hearing at least every two years, or sooner where clinically indicated, so hearing aids can remain matched to current hearing levels.
Getting used to hearing aids
Support while you get used to your hearing aids
New hearing aids can take time to settle into real life. Some sounds may feel sharper than expected at first. Certain listening situations may need further adjustment. You may also find that your confidence grows gradually as you learn what your hearing aids can do.
You may also find it useful to read our guide to what to expect when wearing hearing aids.
Your follow-up appointments give you time to talk through what is working well, what still feels difficult and where your hearing aids may need refining. Small changes to the programming, fit or settings can make a meaningful difference to comfort, clarity and everyday use.

Regular reviews
Six-monthly hearing aid aftercare appointments
We normally see hearing aid clients every six months. These appointments are used to check ear health, clean your hearing aids, replace parts where needed and optimise the hearing aids based on your feedback.
They are also a useful opportunity to ask questions, talk through any listening situations you are finding difficult and make sure you are getting the most from your hearing technology.
Your aftercare appointment may include:
- an ear health check
- cleaning your hearing aids
- replacing parts that need replacing
- fine-tuning and reprogramming based on your feedback
- advice on using your hearing aids in everyday situations
- support with getting more from your hearing aid technology
Hearing reviews
Regular hearing reviews
Your hearing can change over time, so your hearing aids should not simply be left on their original settings. Alto will usually retest your hearing at least every two years, or sooner where clinically indicated.
This helps ensure your hearing aids are programmed to your latest hearing levels and remain appropriate for your current needs. It also gives us the chance to review whether your hearing aids, settings and listening support are still working as well as possible for you.
If your hearing aids need more detailed fine-tuning, your audiologist may also talk you through how fitting and verification work, including real ear measurements.

Fine-tuning
Fine-tuning based on real life
Good hearing aid aftercare is not just maintenance. It is also about understanding how your hearing aids are working in the places that matter to you: conversation, family gatherings, background noise, television, work, social events and time outdoors.
We use your feedback to adjust and refine your hearing aids, and to give practical advice on how to use the technology more effectively. The aim is to help your hearing aids remain comfortable, useful and suited to your day-to-day life.
When to ask
When to ask for aftercare support
You do not need to wait for a routine appointment if something does not feel right. It is sensible to ask for support if your hearing aids have become uncomfortable, if speech feels less clear, if background noise feels harder than expected, or if you are not wearing your hearing aids as much as you hoped.
Aftercare can also help if one side sounds different, if your hearing aids feel blocked or weak, or if you feel you are no longer getting the benefit you expected from them.
Treatment plans
How aftercare connects to treatment plans
Alto’s hearing aid treatment plans are built around ongoing care, not just the hearing aids themselves. They help make space for fitting, follow-up, fine-tuning and support, so your care can continue after the first appointment.
This is one of the reasons we talk about hearing care as a treatment plan rather than a one-off purchase. The hearing aids matter, but the care around them matters too.
Considering hearing aids
If you are considering hearing aids
If you are not yet wearing hearing aids, the first step is a Complete Hearing Assessment. This allows Alto to understand your hearing, your listening needs and whether hearing aids or another form of support may be appropriate.
If hearing aids are recommended, we will explain your options clearly and talk through the fitting, follow-up and aftercare that supports them.
